Project Mismanagement Episode 1: Drag and What

There’s a fine balance between getting out of the way but still being helpful and staying in the way and being no help at all. Generally when we find ourselves with help that is no longer helpful, we just do it ourselves, right or wrong. “Well, why didn’t you just ask” a statement were all familiar with. The solution of course is to tell them, “If you had done your job correctly I wouldn’t have to.” The problem is that we don’t all have the luxury to speak our minds. In our corporate world we can hide or mediocrity by a simple passing of the buck, the blame almost always going to the developer. If a project manager does not ask you, the developer, questions of the things of which they are not sure then they fail! If they give you a task, and you spend more time gathering business rules than you do programming, then they fail! Sadly this has become the norm. Well that’s just not good enough.
